2.1 (J) Self Love
Self Love:
Another way of accepting ourselves, is to love who WE are. And as the old adage suggests: (you can’t really love others, until you truly love yourself)
There are ways we can build the love of ourselves. We can:
1. Pamper ourselves- there is nothing more revitalizing for the spirit than taking time for self care
2. Self talk- there is nothing wrong with telling yourself affirmations that encourage a personal love within.
I like to use a few simple exercises that, when practiced often, can build up self love as well as an inner peace inside. These next exercises focus in on a movement with the breath. When you move with the body, in a flowing nature, you really give yourself the chance to FEEL that movement as you breathe, and FEEL the body as you move. Notice how good it feels to be in your own skin. Notice how good it feels to be YOU! Be sure to smile while performing these exercises, as it adds positivity, and a release of endorphins. It makes a difference in the way you feel inside your body, as well as out. It brings a sense of ownership of yourself. It also can help you accept and actually “like” who you are. Many people really don’t like themselves, which can put up a wall and block the healing process. When you understand, you can accept, when you accept you can “like”, when you “like” you can love, (for ourselves as well as for others). This work connects us on a deeper level with ourselves, as well as those around you. When you look deeper into yourself, you can see how we may have mis-understood aspects of ourselves, which can transfer to how we may mis-understand others. It’s a domino affect of understanding ourselves and others a little better.
Those who have difficulty with this type of exercise, I find, have a greater need for self love.
The more we love ourselves, the easier it becomes to love others around us. Take the time for yourself…to love more. Do you feel love for yourself? Write your thoughts on this in your journal.
