1.5 (A) The Role of Muscle Tension
The Role of Muscle Tension:
We will discuss how muscle tension goes hand in hand with stress and anxiety.
So, again, when we get stressed emotionally, the nervous system gets activated, and hormones are released. These hormones send out signals that the body is in trouble, which activates muscle tension, to protect the body. If the stress only occurs every once and a while, the body can easily recover from the tension.
But, if someone is highly stressed, the nervous system may react with excessive muscle tension. Muscles will contract all over the body, and the person will feel muscular sensations, like soreness and tightness.
When a person is stressed all the time, a person can become hyperstimulated, which is an excessive stimulation of the nervous system. This is where the body is in a constant state of tension, and the brain thinks you need to be protected all the time.
The more stress, the more hyperstimulation.
Let me repeat this, because this is the KEY: if a person is stressed all the time, a person can become hyperstimulated, where the body is in a constant state of tension, because the brain thinks you need to be protected all the time.
